You can speak English when you have time to prepare.

But those spontaneous discussions? Those still feel hard!

Introducing…

You can handle work emails. You manage meetings. You get through presentations when you’ve prepared.

But when colleagues start discussing the news, debating ideas, or talking about “that thing everyone has an opinion on”… you hesitate.

Not because you don’t have opinions. Not because you can’t speak English.

But because when there’s no time to prepare, no script to follow – everything you know seems to disappear.

You stay quiet when you have something valuable to say. You avoid deeper conversations. You feel like you’re always one step behind.

And it’s exhausting!

The Real Problem

You don’t need more grammar lessons. You don’t need vocabulary drills.

You need to practise having real discussions about deeper topics – in a space where it’s safe to make mistakes, think out loud, and express your actual opinions.

The Discussion Space gives you exactly that.

What Is The Discussion Space?

A weekly online session where international professionals discuss engaging topics in English, from current events to culture, technology to social issues, with people who completely understand what it’s like to live and work in an additional language.

This isn’t conversation practice where you have the same conversations about hobbies every week.
This is a space for discussion – real, spontaneous, meaningful, and in a supportive environment designed to build your confidence week by week.

What You’ll Gain

In the first 6 sessions:

  • Confidence to express opinions without over-rehearsing
  • Ability to jump into discussions more naturally
  • Less translation, more spontaneous thinking
  • Phrases for agreeing, disagreeing, and building on ideas

After 12 sessions:

  • Genuine confidence in unscripted discussions
  • Comfort with varied topics and unexpected questions
  • Ability to think and speak at the same time
  • Phrases to interrupt and build on other people’s ideas

After 24 sessions:

  • True spontaneity – you stop translating all the time, you just discuss
  • Confidence in discussing any topic even if you don’t know much about it
  • Cultural fluency – you catch references, understand context much better
  • The mental exhaustion? Greatly reduced!

How it works…

Before Each Session:

Every Friday, you’ll receive:

  • A podcast on that week’s topic (15-20 minutes)
  • Key vocabulary and discussion questions
  • Time to think about your answers (but not script your answers)

So when you join the discussion session on Wednesdays, you’ll feel prepared, not panicked.

During The Session (60-75 minutes):

We meet every Wednesday at 6pm UK time

  • Warm-up: Everyone shares one thought on the topic – structured, comfortable
  • Open discussion: Natural conversation flows. You can practise sharing your opinion, building on ideas, disagreeing politely, sharing your experiences
  • Feedback: We go through common mistakes I heard in the discussion, and we unpack British references, idioms, or cultural nuances that came up
  • Weekly challenge (5 min): One simple thing to try in real life this week

After The Session:

You leave with:

  • Confidence from actually doing the thing you were nervous about
  • Phrases and patterns you heard others use naturally
  • Connection with professionals on the same journey

What makes The Discussion Space Different?

What Makes This Different

It’s not generic “Conversation Practice”

We’re not sitting around asking “What did you do last weekend?” for the 100th time.

We discuss topics such as:

  • The news story everyone’s talking about
  • AI and its impact on work and society
  • British culture nobody explains
  • Social issues
  • Books, podcasts, ideas your colleagues probably reference

Topics that require you to express opinions, not just make small talk.

It’s designed for professionals

Everyone here is like you:

  • Can communicate in English but spontaneous discussions still feel hard
  • Great at their job but tired of staying quiet when conversations get deeper
  • Competent in prepared situations but struggle when put on the spot (with no time to prepare)
  • International professionals working in the UK or overseas

No beginners. No basic English lessons. Just professionals who want to express their full thinking in English.

It’s actually supportive

This isn’t a competition, where the loudest voice wins!

I’ll ensure that:

  • Everyone contributes comfortably
  • Quieter voices get space to be heard
  • The discussion stays engaging, not intimidating
  • You’re challenged, not judged

You’ll leave each session thinking “I actually expressed my opinion” not “I forget everything again.”

Meet your Coach

Hi, I’m Sarah. I’m a certified Neurolanguage Coach® with over 18 years’ experience of helping people from all over the world to become fluent and confident English speakers.

I’ve been working with expats in the UK since 2015, so I understand the unique difficulties you face. When you don’t feel confident, you can start to worry that people will judge you if you hesitate or make mistakes, so you don’t say what you really want to say or avoid having deeper conversations.

But these conversations are where success begins.

When we have deeper conversations, people can get to know us, like us and trust us.

This is the key to success at work, in business and in life.

Frequently Asked Questions

No, you don’t have to be in the UK to join. I have clients who live all over the world. I specialise in helping people working in the UK, and some of the discussion topics will be related to British culture and living in the UK.

The Discussion Space meetings are hosted online on Zoom, so you can join from anywhere in the world (as long as Zoom is available).

The space is designed for upper-intermediate to advanced English speakers who already have a good foundation in English grammar and vocabulary. If you can understand this page and follow conversations in English but struggle with confidence or fluency when speaking, you’re at the perfect level to join.

This programme isn’t suitable for complete beginners, as we focus on activating and improving the English you already know rather than teaching basic language. If you’re unsure about your level, we can assess this during a brief consultation call. Email me at sarah@theenglishcoach.biz to arrange your call.

No. While the atmosphere is supportive and conversational, every session has:

  • Structured preparation
  • Facilitation to ensure meaningful discussion practice (not aimless chatting)
  • The Discussion Foundations course which teaches you useful discussion techniques and language
  • Intentional focus on skills like expressing opinions, building on ideas, participating spontaneously

It’s practice with purpose.

No, you don’t have to attend every week because access to sessions is valid for 12 weeks (Starter Package), 24 weeks (Growth Package) or 48 weeks (Transformation package).

Drop in when your schedule allows. However, we recommend weekly attendance for best results.

Topics change weekly and include:

  • Current events and news everyone’s discussing
  • Technology, AI, and the future of work
  • UK workplace culture and unwritten rules
  • Social issues, ethical questions, innovation
  • Travel, lifestyle, and cultural differences
  • Books, podcasts, ideas people reference

We avoid highly political or religious debates but embrace meaningful, varied topics that come up in real professional and social life in the UK.

Group sessions are held once a week on Wednesdays at 6pm UK time and will last between 60-90 minutes.

Even if you don’t attend the session, you will still receive the listening and vocabulary exercises for that session to work on in your own time.

1:1 coaching is personalised to your specific career goals, challenges, and communication needs. It’s high-touch, customised, and focused on your unique workplace situations.

The Discussion Space is about building general discussion confidence through regular practice with peers. It’s community-based, topic-driven, and focused on spontaneous communication across varied subjects – not just work-related scenarios.

Many people do both – using The Discussion Space for ongoing practice while working on specific goals in 1:1 sessions.

Yes. Attend your first 2 sessions. If The Discussion Space isn’t what you need, contact us within 14 days for a full refund.

We’re confident you’ll value it, but we want you to feel confident too.

What do my clients say?

“Sarah is a superb, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher. She helped me develop more confidence in English for business in my first entrepreneurship adventure and better understand the cultural differences of doing business in English-speaking countries. And above all, she provided me with fantastic tips for every situation, totally spot-on! I recommend her services for anyone who is not English native and wants to boost their business internationally. Many thanks again, Sarah!”

Javier, Business Owner from Spain

“Sarah was a life-saver when she helped me to prepare a presentation for work on marine insurance law. Because English is not my mother tongue, she put a lot of effort, kindness and patience to reduce my strong Spanish accent. I strongly recommend her as a competent and reliable professional.”

Juan, Maritime Lawyer from Spain

“I had taken my IELTS English exam many times before I started the classes with Sarah and finally passed. This was a massive achievement for me and without Sarah’s lessons I would have not been able to succeed. She was very supportive, very committed and truly dedicated to helping me improve my English, especially my writing skills. She helped me to make my dream come true! Now I can carry on progressing in my medical career. I cannot thank her enough and highly recommend her.”

Claudia, Doctor from Colombia

“Sarah helped me to prepare for my IELTS test to study on a medical course. She was supportive and also very knowledgeable. She is very patient and takes her time to explain everything clearly. I would highly recommend her. She has a very open and friendly personality and I felt confident talking to her as I was very nervous taking the test.”

Helga, Medical Student from Hungary

“Sarah helped me and my colleagues with our English skills when I was a machine operator in my company. Before the class, I was shy to speak English but Sarah helped me feel confident, I learnt more about the English language and how to speak politely in the UK. Now I am a supervisor in my company.”

Natalia, Manufacturing Supervisor from Poland
